You rent. Why do you need to buy insurance?
As a renter you are just as vulnerable to having your personal property damaged or stolen as a home owner. A mishap in your apartment or rental home could cost you a fortune if you are uninsured. Renter's policies protect you from possible financial ruin in the following ways:
-
Personal Property Coverage: Your personal property is protected, even when traveling, from direct loss.
-
Additional Living Expense Coverage: If your apartment or home becomes uninhabitable while being repaired from a covered loss, the costs of temporary lodging and meals are covered.
-
Personal Liability Protection: This coverage protects you against claims of injury, including someone being injured in your home. It also covers damage to the property, including damage that you, a member of your household (pets, too!) might do to the rental property. Medical expenses arising from injuries to others on or off your premises and attorney fees (up to the limit of the policy) for your defense are also covered.
The following coverages are optional:
-
Replacement Cost Coverage: With this coverage, you would receive the full amount that it would take to replace your possessions at today's prices (minus any deductibles).
-
Personal Computer Endorsement: The coverage extends the range of losses to include your computer, software, and peripheral equipment so that they are all protected.
-
Waterbed Liability: If you have a waterbed and it causes any damage to your premises or the property of others, this coverage protects you.
